SUV Fleet Operations Manager

Inside the Role The Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) Specialty Use Vehicle (SUV) Group is responsible for the strategic coordination, licensing, transportation, presentation, and operational support of DTNA products. The SUV Group operates cross‑functionally, partnering with all DTNA divisions and global stakeholders within Daimler AG to ensure corporate vehicle assets are compliant, operationally ready, and effectively supported throughout their lifecycle.

This position serves as a senior operational and compliance resource responsible for the organization, oversight, and management of contract drivers, as well as providing advanced office and field operational support for DTNA vehicles and drivers. The role plays a key part in the interpretation, enforcement, and execution of DTNA DOT compliance policies, governing the operation, driving, reporting, and regulatory adherence of corporate‑owned commercial vehicles, including tractors, trucks, passenger vehicles, and trailers.

The SUV Group operates within Product Validation Engineering (PVE), supporting validation activities that ensure DTNA products remain industry leaders in reliability, safety and regulatory compliance.

Position offers a starting salary range of $95,000 to $121,000 USD

What You Drive at DTNA:

• Serve as a subject‑matter expert (SME) on FMCSA, DOT, IRP/IFTA, HOS/ELD, and customs regulations, interpreting requirements and applying them across DTNA commercial vehicle operations.
• Provide enterprise‑level DOT compliance oversight and enforcement support, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and corrective action processes.
• Own and manage commercial vehicle licensing and registration programs for apportioned, commercial, trailer, and pool vehicles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual DOT regulatory reporting, including OSCAR, IRP, EPA, UCR, and FHVUT, ensuring data integrity and audit readiness.
• Submit vehicle tax filing information and required EPA reports in coordination with the Tax Department.
• Support ODOT Weight Mile tax audits, including documentation preparation, issue resolution, and cross‑functional coordination.
• Lead and coordinate regulatory and compliance audits, including risk identification, documentation strategy, corrective action tracking, and follow‑up execution.
• Provide functional ownership of commercial vehicles, trailers, and pool vehicles, including key control, location tracking, transport requests, violation management, and approval of non‑PVE vehicle usage requests.
• Coordinate and oversee vehicle maintenance, repairs, recalls, and service campaigns with Shop Supervisors to ensure operational readiness and compliance closure.
• Analyze and track vehicle utilization, lifecycle metrics, service scheduling, and asset locations using fleet management systems to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Govern pool vehicle operations, including parking assignments, scheduling controls, condition standards, maintenance coordination, and violation mitigation.
• Lead and facilitate Commercial Vehicle Advisory Board meetings, including agenda development, issue analysis, stakeholder coordination, and execution of follow‑up actions.
• Design, oversee, and continuously improve Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver training programs for CDL drivers operating Specialty Use Vehicles, ensuring regulatory alignment and operational readiness.
• Maintain expert‑level knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandates, providing oversight for program enforcement and escalated issue resolution.
• Direct and oversee ELD program administration, including device assignment, compliance monitoring, training coordination, and resolution of complex driver issues.
• Provide leadership oversight for Driver Evaluation Requests and Reports, identifying compliance trends, risk exposure, and recommended corrective actions.
• Lead or support accident investigations, including root‑cause analysis, damage claim submission, vendor recovery efforts, and regulatory documentation.
• Oversee fuel card program governance, including ordering, assignment, utilization monitoring, policy enforcement, and corrective actions.
• Serve as a senior cross‑functional liaison supporting vehicle manufacturing, procurement, utilization, and disposal activities.
• Lead vehicle turn‑ins and reassignments, including inspections, repair assessments, recall/campaign validation, destruction approvals and donation strategies.
• Maintain governance of SharePoint platforms and compliance repositories, ensuring data integrity, inventory accuracy, and continuous improvement of documentation processes.
• Research, approve, and manage vehicle donation programs supporting Diesel Technician and Engineering training, ensuring compliance and strategic alignment.
• Review, approve, and validate miscellaneous Invoices, asset documentation, and BancPay transactions, ensuring financial accuracy and correct asset disposition.
• Provide senior review and analysis of monthly billing, journal entries, and cost allocations, ensuring financial integrity across internal and external business units.
• Serve as a lead escalation resource and mentor for direct reports, providing guidance on complex regulatory and operational issues.
• Support vehicle detailing and preparation standards for audits, testing programs, public demonstrations, and executive events as required.
• Travel periodically to support enterprise‑level vehicle events, regulatory audits, testing initiatives and critical operational needs.

Knowledge You Should Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Business, Engineering or a related field with 5-7 years of relevant professional experience. OR eight (8) years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Two (2) years of supervisory or team lead experience.
• Demonstrated success operating in a fast‑paced dynamic work environment, effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience using professional judgement and analytical thinking to deliver on customer requirements, while maintaining operational and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated experience developing cross-functional solutions and proactively addressing operational gaps before impact to the business.
• Ability to partner collaboratively across teams supporting strategic and operational objectives.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels within the organization and external vendors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document, analyze and communicate findings and recommendations.
• Experience managing operational expenses and third-party vendor contracts.

Exceptional Candidates Might Hav e:

• Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, DOT compliance requirements, commercial vehicle compliance, and driver safety regulations and best practices.
• Experience using structured problem-solving tools, process documentation and continuous improvement methods.
• Experience implementing fleet management tools and/or systems to improve operational visibility and throughput.
• Experience developing, implementing and optimizing fleet management metrics to drive operational efficiencies.
