Accounting Manager

A respected, community-centered nonprofit organization in the Greater Philadelphia area is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead its day-to-day accounting operations and support the continued strength of its financial infrastructure.

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on nonprofit finance leader who enjoys balancing team leadership with direct ownership of the work. The successful candidate will oversee a small accounting team while remaining closely involved in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month-end close, payroll-related processes, grant accounting, and other essential finance functions.

What You'll Do

• Lead, coach, and support a three-person accounting team.
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Manage month-end close, account reconciliations, and related reporting processes.
• Support nonprofit and grant-funded accounting activities, including accurate tracking and reconciliation of funds.
• Oversee payroll-related processes and help maintain dependable financial controls and procedures.
• Serve as a hands-on resource across the finance function, stepping into day-to-day accounting work as needed.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen workflows, documentation, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Partner with organizational leadership to ensure the finance function effectively supports the nonprofit's mission and operations.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an accounting degree is strongly preferred.
• Approximately 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful AP/AR responsibility.
• Prior nonprofit accounting experience.
• Experience working with grants or grant-funded programs.
• At least 2-3 years of team leadership or people-management experience.
• Strong knowledge of reconciliations, month-end close, and core accounting operations.
• A grounded, collaborative leadership style and the willingness to remain close to the work.
• Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to lead with accountability and respect.
