RN - PCU

● About Facility:

o 207 licensed beds

o No Trauma Designation

o Not a Teaching Hospital

o Chest Pain Center

o Stroke Center

o Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit

● Unit Information:

o Beds: 10 MedSurg and 10 Progressive

o Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months PCU experience (Resource Team requirement)

o Will you accept a first-time traveler: Not preferred but will consider

● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

o Heart Failure, Chest Pain, r/o Stroke, General Medical – Sepsis, Renal Failure, Respiratory Failure, DKA, interventional patients with titratable drips

● Patient Ratios:

o RN: MedSurg 1:5-6; PCU : 1:3-4

o CNA: ratio varies

● Required Licensure & Certifications:

o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

● Skills required:

o General PCU skillset: Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps

o Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, Insulin, blood products, IVF

● Support within the Department:

o CNA

o Receptionist/HUC

o Charge nurse – may or may not have patients

o Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws

o IV/VAT Team: 11a-7p, 11p-7a

o Resource Nurse – as staffing allows

o RT, 24/7

o Hospitalist, 24/7

o Intensivist - ICU provider in house until 11p M-F, till 7p Sat/Sun, VCC coverage and on call Intensivist

o Telemetry monitoring/tech? no

● Technology/Equipment:

o EMR: Epic

o IV Pump: Alaris

o Med dispensing: Omnicell

o Monitors: Phillips

● Floating: If yes, where?

o All units within scope and below

o Within region and scope of practice

o Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable

▪ Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises

▪ If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)

● Orientation (facility and unit) :

o NEO

o 2 days departmental

● Scheduling:

o Weekend rotation: every other

o No call

o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays

o RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours

o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
