Senior Wildlife Game Biologist & Habitat Manager

Description of Job This position serves within CPW’s NE Terrestrial Section as a wildlife game biologist, responsible for formulating recommendations and management options for wildlife game species and habitats through the collection and analysis of pertinent wildlife data and observations, and for designing, implementing and evaluating wildlife population inventories in the assigned area. Responsibilities Formulate and present wildlife management recommendations to CPW staff and external partners by collecting, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting biological data; provide technical support in internal and external plan reviews. Develop, plan, and conduct wildlife and habitat inventories to guide management decisions and compile reports on wildlife abundance, demographics, and distribution. Minimize or mitigate impacts on wildlife and their habitats by providing biological expertise in the review and analysis of environmental statements and natural resource plans. Conduct or participate in wildlife and habitat management studies, gather biological data, and deliver reports and presentations. Collaborate with CPW Habitat Unit, Field Operations, and procurement staff to develop and implement habitat management plans on public and private lands. Employ computer‑based wildlife population models using data from inventories, harvest records, and research results. Formulate and implement wildlife and habitat management plans based on data compilations, stakeholder input, and negotiation of options. Educate and inform the public through dissemination of wildlife information to hunters, constituents, schools, and the media. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of relevant experience in wildlife game and harvest management, wildlife population management, wildlife ecology and biology, or a related occupation. Or a combination of related education and experience equal to six (6) years. Preferred Qualifications Current or former Colorado Parks and Wildlife work or volunteer experience. Expertise in wildlife game management. Experience managing wildlife programs and/or projects. Experience modeling wildlife population parameters. Experience analyzing wildlife space use. Knowledge of game inventory and monitoring techniques. A Master's degree in Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife Management, or a closely related field. Professional level writing and verbal communication skills. Required Competencies Ability to conduct sustained aerial surveys (>3‑hour fuel loads) in small aircraft with low sensitivity to motion sickness. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Knowledge of wildlife and game management theories, applications, and techniques. Knowledge of experimental designs and analyses used in wildlife biology and ecology. Knowledge of the biology and ecology of wildlife game species in Colorado. Proficiency at data collection, summary, and analyses. Self‑directed and teamwork skills. Strong writing skills with understanding of legal and regulatory concepts. Ability to collaborate with diverse individuals, interest groups, and members of the public. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, R Software, and GIS Software. Mandatory low sensitivity to motion sickness and ability for sustained flight time (10 hours with refueling breaks) in helicopters and fixed‑wing aircraft.
