CNC Machinist

This role focuses on the daily setup and operation of CNC milling and CNC lathe machines in a fast-paced job shop environment. You will machine a variety of short-run and custom parts made from mild steel and stainless steel, manage frequent changeovers, and work independently while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling and CNC lathe machines in a fast-paced job shop environment.
• Machine short-run and custom parts using mild steel and stainless steel materials.
• Interpret prints and travelers to understand job requirements and specifications.
• Perform full machine setups, including loading and proving out CNC programs.
• Set tooling and offsets and perform tool changes as required for each job.
• Make in-process adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
• Inspect parts during and after machining to ensure they meet quality and print specifications.
• Troubleshoot machining issues as they arise and implement effective solutions.
• Adapt to frequent changeovers and shifting priorities throughout the day.
• Collaborate with team members while taking ownership of individual tasks and responsibilities.
• Wear multiple hats in the shop as needed to support overall production and workflow.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on CNC machining experience in a job shop environment.
• Experience with CNC milling and CNC lathe operation.
• Ability to perform CNC machine setup, including tooling and offset adjustments.
• Ability to interpret prints and travelers accurately.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
• Experience making in-process adjustments and inspecting parts for accuracy.
• Comfort working with mild steel and stainless steel materials.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining and setup issues independently.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changeovers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a mill/lathe machinist.
• Experience with CNC programming and proving out programs.
• Familiarity with manual CNC operation.
• Experience operating a Bridgeport mill.
• Experience with manual lathes and manual mills.
• Desire to learn and further develop setup skills on CNC equipment.
• Comfort wearing multiple hats in a small shop setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small CNC shop with approximately 12 employees, where team members often wear multiple hats to keep work flowing smoothly. The shop runs in a fast-paced job shop setting with frequent part changeovers and a mix of short-run and custom work. The facility is somewhat dirty, as is typical of machining environments, but is reasonably maintained. You will work with CNC mills, CNC lathes, and manual equipment such as Bridgeport mills and manual lathes and mills. Dress should be practical and appropriate for a hands-on machining environment, with suitable workwear and protective gear as required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of LAKEVILLE, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
