26-27 School Year- 11 Month School Social Worker

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The School Social worker significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student successes and by implementing effective intervention strategies. Serves as the link between students' families and the school, working with parents, guardians, teachers, and other school officials to ensure that students reach their academic and personal potential.

Manage crisis situations Successfully work with people from all ethnic and economic backgrounds Identify social problems and needs and assess the ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving Work effectively through counseling and other methods with individuals and families in helping them solve their problems Understand and interpret laws, policies and regulations, acceptance of rights, responsibilities and differences of others Communicate and establish effective working relationships with families, co-workers, other professional and technical staff, social agencies, schools and the general public Prepare reports and maintain records Require excellent time‑management and organizational skills Have exceptional interpersonal skills Possess good public speaking skills Have computer proficiency in use of word processing, spreadsheet and database software

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: Master's degree in social work with a minimum of 60 graduate semester hours. Pupil personnel services with an endorsement as school social worker. Preferred: One academic year of successful experience as a school social worker.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Work is typically performed in a school and home. Occasional attendance at school‑related activities throughout the state is necessary. Daily contact is made with students, teachers and families. Regular contact is made with the community. Communication may not be cooperative in nature and requires tact and discretion. Occasional contact with state administrators is necessary. Job requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and light lifting of up to 20 lbs. unassisted. Job requires a valid driver's license. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position. Program necessity requires working hours beyond set hours and days.
