Your role as a kitchen assistant is significant, as food is a very important focus of our camp program. Our kitchen is Kosher and all rules pertaining to this will be fully explained during orientation. Kitchen assistants are responsible for preparing three healthy and delicious meals and four snacks per day. This position requires you to live onsite, in staff housing for duration of employment. Room and board are included in addition to your salary.

• You will work under the direct supervision of the Head Chefs.
• Assist in food preparation under the guidance and direction of the chef. This work will include a good deal of knife work, as well as assembly, counting and basic cooking of food items.
• Help with all aspects of food service during meals — serving food, restocking the buffet tables, assisting with the kitchen, and generally insuring everything goes smoothly.
• Ensure that the meals are presented beautifully and artfully, the way they would be at a gourmet restaurant.
• After each meal, condense and wrap leftover food items for refrigeration and label with date and item name.
• Responsible for cleaning the kitchen after meals, including washing dishes, mopping the floor daily and removing all garbage and recycling to the dumpsters.
• Responsible for adhearing to all CDC and American Camping Association Guidelines in regard to health and safety and proper sanitation procedures.
• Assist chefs with organization of storage areas after deliveries.
• Assist with distributing snacks to our campers and staff under the direction of the snack chef.
• As directed, participate in a major kitchen cleaning once each week - including all equipment used.
• As assigned, assist the dining room staff with service and clean-up.
• Provide support in other areas as directed by your supervisor or the camp directorate.
• Work closely with others in an intense environment and be prepared to take on the multitude of tasks assigned to them by the head chef and kitchen manager: preparing the salad bar; cooking a special meal for a camper with allergies; mopping and cleaning floors and bathrooms; organizing the kitchen; helping to serve food during meals; decorating tables for camper birthdays and Shabbat; and countless other tasks that cannot be neatly enumerated.
