Controller

Community Concepts, a Maine nonprofit that provides resources to help people move forward, is seeking a Controller to join the Finance Team. The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring accurate financial records, internal controls, grant accounting, maintaining general ledger, and compliance. This is a full-time position, working in our Lewiston Office, and reports directly to the CFO. Some Essential Duties: Developing and managing program budgets, typical managerial duties, supervising staff, and ensuring all laws, regulations, requirements, and standards are adhered to. Develop, maintain, and monitor effective internal controls that safeguard assets and ensure compliance. Direct all accounting operations (GL, AR, AP) to guide financial decisions and activities. Oversee fiscal management of multiple federal, state, local, and private funding sources, including but not limited to Head Start/Early Head Start, CSBG, LIHEAP/HEAP, HUD, USDA, MaineHousing, DHHS Contracts, etc. Ensure timely and accurate reporting, including but not limited to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, cash flow, and balance sheet reconciliation reporting. Support Agency financial functioning through reporting, research, analysis, and automation of financial operations, as well as partnering with the agency’s independent auditors and all organizational staff. Computer literacy is a must, including Microsoft Excel & Word, and accounting software. Other Requirements: Strong understanding of fiscal policy; create usable budgets for the business; hire and oversee the members on the Finance Team; a continuous improvement mindset; offer advice to the CFO and CEO regarding spending and budget questions; comfortable with interacting with a Finance Committee/Board, detail oriented, ability to manage/lead multiple financial projects; ability to inspire a team; written and verbal communication must be able to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff; promptly and accurately find solutions to financial related challenges.
