Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of State Training School (STS) is seeking an Accounting Clerk 2 to join our team! This is a full-time position with HHS.

The primary responsibilities of the Accounting Clerk 2 are to perform accounting, banking, and record keeping of student funds and other non-appropriated accounts and serve as receptionist for the Business Office. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Document all funds received and make deposits.

  • Identify students who may be eligible for Social Security benefits and apply for the State Training School to be the representative payee for those students.

  • Issue checks as needed for student expenses and other non-appropriated purchases.

  • Maintain documentation of all invoices and receipts for expenditures.

  • Maintain equipment and tool inventories for the facility, including Fixed Asset inventory, vocational tools and equipment, and maintenance tools and equipment.

  • Submit monthly reimbursement claims for the school meal/snack program and submit financial dietary reports to the Department of Education, as required.

  • Order supplies for the Business Office, complete state vehicle reports, fill in for the Superintendent’s secretary in their absence, and attend and participate in all annual mandatory trainings.

Working at STS comes with a special perk! This location offers access for staff to the impressive on-campus gym during off student hours. This includes 3 full size basketball courts, two fully stocked weight rooms with machine and free weights, showers, and lockers. We also provide a cardio roomfor staff onlyfeaturing exercise mats and advanced treadmills and stationary bikes. Usage of these resources is completely free for all STS staff.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and two years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal data using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;

OR

the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;

OR

substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;

OR

any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time work as an Accounting Clerk 1 shall be considered as qualifying.
