Summary The Staff Dentist will function as a general dentist – practicing the full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems. He/she will be responsible for the overall dental care of patients, including consultative services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings at the LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center. Duties and Responsibilities Oral assessment and provision of oral healthcare services and patient education. Provide clinical leadership and oversee the conduct and performance of designated ancillary staff (dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental laboratory technicians, and clerical staff). Interact with other health providers in the medical center, train and supervise dental residents and students, and develop and maintain peer review and process improvement programs. Ensure standards of care consistent with those established by the dental community locally and nationally: American Dental Association American Association of Dental Schools American Association of Dental Hygienists American Association of Hospital Dentists American Society for Geriatric Dentistry American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery American Academy of Periodontics American Board of Endodontics American College of Prosthodontists Board of Dentistry of the Department of Commerce of the State of Michigan Office of Dentistry of the Department of Veterans Affairs Maintain current BLS, dental/pharmacy/dental specialty licenses, and privileges. Complete continuing education to maintain licensure and meet the compulsory education requirements of ­Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. Practice only within the range of current privileges and meet community standards of care. Both Focused Professional Practice Evaluation and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation, together with Peer Review, are utilized to assess competency of dentists. Follow national and local policies. Participate in performance improvement activities. Other Details Work schedule: Intermittent – days and hours will vary.
