Youth Leader - Expanded Learning Programs (South County San Diego)

Overview Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Leader – Expanded Learning Programs (ELP) is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants, and for the daily planning and implementation of expanded learning program activities. The Youth Leader collaborates with other team members, families, and school personnel to provide participants with academic support, enrichment activities, and other student programs that increase student skill building, encourage healthy choices and behaviors, promote diversity and equity, support youth voice and leadership, and increase overall academic achievement. The Youth Leader position requires high energy, dedication, patience, and a strong desire to mentor youth, strengthen families, and serve the community. SCHEDULE

This is NOT a summer position. We are staffing for the school year and hours may be limited or suspended during summer break (June 5th - July 9th) M-F 1:30pm – 6pm By submitting your availability, you acknowledge and agree that the availability listed on your application will be considered a commitment and must be maintained for the first ninety (90) days of employment. Availability changes will not be accepted during this initial period, as scheduling is based on the availability provided at the time of hire, except as required by law. After the ninety (90) day period, you may submit a request to update your availability. All requests will be reviewed and considered based on business needs and staffing requirements and are not guaranteed.

WORK DESIGNATION

In-Person Responsibilities Actively supervise program participants, ensuring their guidance and safety at all times Assist in the planning, management, and implementation of age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active and meaningful experiences Communicate in a positive and professional manner with all participants, families, school and district personnel, and community partners Collaborate with school personnel and program partners to align high quality academic activities and coordinate student services Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students Ensure that program meets the requirements of the ASES/21st CCLC grants, school district, and the YMCA of San Diego County Perform daily duties that ensure space is properly maintained, organized, clean, and safe Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation Physical ability to lead activities such as sports, games, academic assistance, assemblies, transitions, and other program activities

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position occasionally requires travel throughout San Diego County in the event of shift coverage

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma/GED Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation. Physical ability to lead activities such as sports, games, academic assistance, assemblies, transitions, and other program activities.

Licensing, state law and our funders require that applicants be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications Negative TB assessment or test results obtained within the past 60 days, prior to working on a school site, and every four (4) years thereafter CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire, and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute Completion of one of the following: 48 college credits at an institution of higher education AA/AS degree, OR Passing score on district’s Classroom Assistant/Instructional Aide proficiency exam YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you.
