The responsibilities of this position consist of teaching biology to students in the community college setting. This position holds accountability for instruction, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. This position involves preparing for and teaching courses in assigned discipline in order to achieve course requirements and student success outcomes. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, online or dual enrollment environment. Examples of Duties Teaches assigned classroom courses. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s). Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students. Maintains regular communication with Library and Learning Services staff. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide. Adheres to the objectives, policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures and compliance guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Education, Certification, Licensure: Required Master's degree in Biology or Required Master's degree in another discipline with 18 graduate credits in Biology. Experience: Two years of teaching experience; ideally at the community college level. Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment. Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation. Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology. Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills. Written and computer skills needed to prepare course materials. Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.
