An established, privately held multi-specialty dental group is seeking a seasoned Director of Operations to lead operations across four locations. The organization delivers pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, adult cosmetic dentistry, and oral surgery through 20 providers and a team of approximately 100 across Minnesota and Wisconsin, with annual revenue in the eight figures. Two pediatric dentists own and operate the business, with no private equity backing. That independence is our greatest advantage: we set our own standards of care and invest in our people without pressure to deliver returns to outside shareholders.

This is an executive appointment. The Director of Operations reports directly to ownership and leads the administrative director, clinical director, location leads, and the finance and human resources functions. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated command of a complex, multi-location dental enterprise and the judgment to lead it at scale. We have grown substantially over the past several years and are now focused on running what we have built with real operational discipline. 

Compensation:

$165,000+

Responsibilities:

• Drive operational and financial performance across four locations and four specialties by establishing consistent clinical support workflows, scheduling discipline, and patient experience standards.

• Own the annual operating budget and the performance indicators that govern the business: production, collections, case acceptance, chair utilization, provider productivity, and overhead.

• Oversee the full revenue cycle, including commercial insurance and Medicaid billing across two states, with accountability for collections performance and payer strategy.

• Lead and develop the executive and location leadership teams, establishing clear accountability and building organizational bench strength.

• Apply AI tools to raise administrative productivity across the organization, and establish standards for their responsible use consistent with HIPAA and patient privacy obligations.

• Partner with actively engaged ownership on strategy, capital priorities, and the decisions that shape the organization.

• Maintain compliance with Minnesota and Wisconsin dental board requirements, OSHA, HIPAA, and payer regulations.

Qualifications:

• Five or more years of progressive operations leadership, including substantial experience directing multi-location organizations.

• Demonstrated command of dental practice economics: P&L ownership, budget construction, fee schedule and payer analysis, and the ability to translate practice data into operational decisions.

• A documented record of developing leaders and holding management accountable for measurable outcomes.

• Experience overseeing finance and human resources functions, directly or through subordinate managers.

• Demonstrated application of AI tools to improve organizational productivity. Candidates should be prepared to describe specific implementations, their approach, and the measurable results achieved.

• Sound executive judgment and a consistent record of decisive action and follow-through.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related discipline. MBA or MHA preferred.
