Job Description and Duties

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced hybrid environment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Insurance Rate Analyst with experience researching and developing of the proper rate component determination (RCD) factors for rate filings.

Under direction of the Supervising Insurance Rate Analyst, the Senior Insurance Rate Analyst will lead a team of Rate Analysts by providing job assignments, reviewing worksheets and written recommendations to assure timely completion of rate filings, accurate analysis, and a high quality work product, and analyzing filings containing rates, rating plans, rating systems, manual rules, and policy forms to ensure accuracy of data, the impact on rates, appropriateness of forms, and compliance with California Insurance Code and California Code of Regulations.

LIMITED TERM - This is a 12-month limited term position, which may be extended up to 24 months or become a permanent position; however, a Limited Term appointment may be terminated at any time by either the employee or the appointng Power. 

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. Working Conditions

• The incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise office building
• Position may require frequent sitting
• The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDIs telework policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed; however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.
• Occasional travel may be required within and/or outside the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.). Travel may include overnight stay.

• Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
