Presbyterian Rust Medical Center's Progressive Care Unit 3 is hiring a Unit Secretary/Nursing Tech to perform secretarial/clerical duties while acting as a communication center for the nursing unit. Performs specific patient care procedures (such as bedside testing) under the direction of a licensed Nurse and/or performs specific support procedures for the operation of a Nursing or Clinical Department. Type of Opportunity Full time, FTE: 0.90, Job Exempt: No, Work Shift: 12 Hour Nights (United States of America). Responsibilities Courteously greet and direct customers. Promote and facilitate accurate and timely unit communication. Keep locator boards current. Answer telephones and efficiently process information, including accurately transcribing physicians orders. Communicate and process necessary paperwork/information for patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Ensure medical records are complete and in order at discharge. Maintain correct census and bed status report. Assemble patient charts and organize them daily by filing pertinent reports and adding blank forms as needed. Maintain and account for office supplies for the unit. Assist in maintaining nursing units cleanliness and orderliness. Monitor, collect and record information in the patient record. Collect and record vital signs, weights, and other patient data. Transport patients and document action in patient record. Participate in the nutritional well‑being of patients through tray delivery, assistance with patient set‑up and feeding. Accurately record input and output. Assist with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene (shaving, mouth care, foot care, pericare and bathing), positioning and ambulation. Communicate information pertinent to the end of shift summation before leaving the unit. Round on patients and families frequently to assess and address personal needs, concerns or comfort related issues. Report information to responsible nurse for resolution when necessary. Insert and remove gastric and urethral tubes. Perform enemas and disimpactions. Remove peripheral, intravenous therapy lines. Perform phlebotomy on certain units after specific training. Operate patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such as cardiac and fetal heart monitoring). Perform bedside testing such as oximetry, ECG, glucometry, urinalysis and other tests. Perform wound care and dressing changes. Remove staples and sutures. Assist nurses and physicians with sterile procedures. Assist with application and removal of restraints under the direction of an RN. Apply oxygen delivery devices as ordered without altering settings or determining rates. Assist patients with portable or wall oxygen, and assure proper storage of oxygen cylinders. Document all care provided in the appropriate place in the patient record. Assemble patient charts. Post laboratory and other results in patient chart. Use the computerized documentation system at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description. Deliver specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transport X‑rays, blood products and equipment. Ensure cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Clean and store equipment. Empty trash, linen bags and sharps containers. Stock medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventory equipment as required. Process broken equipment as directed. Maintain equipment logs as required. Perform other functions as required. Qualifications High School or GED. Clinical experience or completion of Unit Secretary course or completion of self‑study module preferred. Must successfully complete competency verification before starting on assigned unit.
