We are looking for a Senior CMF Quality Engineer to join our Supply Chain team in San Francisco, California. In this role, sit at the intersection of Oura's CMF Design, R&D, and Supply Chain teams. You will partner directly with our CMF Designers to carry out their color, material, and finish direction — including coatings, platings, textures, and cosmetic standards, from concept exploration through high-volume mass production, ensuring every finish that ships matches the intended design story at scale.Job requirements include setting up quality systems at suppliers so that CMF execution — color, material, and finish — is measured, controlled, and repeatable across a complex, global supply chain. You will own the quality systems and data behind the CMF sampling process, including master color/material standards and golden samples. You will plan, develop, and implement measurement methods, control plans, and other supply quality engineering processes covering surface treatments such as PVD, anodization, electroplating, laser texturing/etching, and soft-touch coatings — from concept phase through mass production. You will be the primary quality liaison between CMF Designers, PD, Manufacturing and suppliers, championing a culture of quality and aesthetic consistency on behalf of Oura and our customers.You'll collaborate closely with our CMF Design, Industrial Design, Product Design and Operations teams, holding recurring reviews to align on color and finish targets, build units, and sample status, while also shaping and refining both the process and the product. A strong background in surface finishing processes, color science, and design for manufacturing (DFM) is essential for success in this role.

This is a US Hybrid role, candidates must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the office 3 days per week.

What You Will Do:

• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) through development builds, ramp-up, mass production, and steady state expansion efforts, with a focus on CMF surfaces and finishes.
• Partner directly with the CMF Design team to translate color, material, and finish direction into manufacturable, scalable, and quality-controlled production processes.
• Own and maintain master color/material standards, golden samples, and build units throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring every physical sample and document is tracked and traceable across design, engineering, and manufacturing.
• Develop and implement quality systems, control plans, and measurement methods — including colorimetry, spectrophotometry, and gloss/sheen measurement — for coatings and surface treatments such as PVD, anodization, electroplating, laser texturing/etching, and soft-touch coatings.
• Lead build readiness reviews focused on CMF quality deliverables, including equipment readiness, process qualification, and post-build cosmetic and finish data analysis, to facilitate design and process improvements.
• Identify and effectively communicate CMF-specific process risks — including color shift, adhesion/delamination, mura, orange peel, pinholes, and texture inconsistency — using data-driven approaches to facilitate discussions and improvements across Oura teams and suppliers.
• Analyze and evaluate data to establish appropriate cosmetic and finish spec limits (e.g. color Delta-E, gloss units, texture roughness, adhesion/tape-pull, corrosion resistance, wear resistance) as well as corresponding process control limits.
• Hold running reviews with CMF Designers and process engineers to align on color and finish targets, schedules, and sample status, translating technical findings for design, engineering, and manufacturing audiences.
• Scale up suppliers and processes to meet production goals, including yield targets, line capacity (UPH), process capability (CPK), and equipment and headcount requirements for coating and finishing lines.
• Conduct supplier audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supplier CMF performance, including qualification of coating, plating, texturing, and finishing processes.

What you'll bring

• 7+ years of experience in Supplier Manufacturing Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, or CMF/Surface Finishing Engineering, with direct exposure to coatings, platings, or surface treatment processes. Ideally seeking someone with strong mechanical process development and color/material understanding.
• Experience working with final assembly factories and mechanical enclosures and/or electronics suppliers.
• Experience in supplier quality engineering in high volume hand held / wearable and/or consumer products with high cosmetic standards.
• Experience qualifying and auditing surface finishing processes including PVD, anodization (Type II/Type III), electroplating, laser texturing/etching, soft-touch/soft-feel coatings, and painting.
• Deep, demonstrable knowledge of color science and measurement fundamentals (colorimetry, spectrophotometry, Delta-E, gloss/sheen measurement) and how they translate into repeatable production specs.
• Understanding of quality principles and tools such as GRR, SPC, FA/CA, 8D, FMEA, and DOEs, along with finish-specific test methods (e.g. adhesion/tape-pull testing per ASTM D3359, salt spray/corrosion resistance, abrasion and wear resistance, and thermal shock testing).
• Understanding of manufacturing principles and tools such as DFM, SOP, GD&T, Six Sigma, and LEAN manufacturing principles.
• Self-driven and eager problem solver who thrives in demanding, fast-paced, iterative design environments and can pivot quickly as design direction evolves.
• Superb organizational skills with the ability to manage large volumes of physical samples, master standards, and documentation across multiple concurrent programs and timelines.
• Highly organized with the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex CMF and quality concepts to diverse audiences — designers, engineers, and manufacturing partners — through presentations and written communication, such as slide decks and email.
• Able to set up systems to capture reliable and meaningful data to help drive critical process improvements and enhance product/component design.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%.

Ōura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
