Job Summary The Ultrasound Technologist (sonographer) performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics, and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures, including abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable), and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment and will participate in the quality control of the ultrasound department. Qualifications Education: One of the following New hires as of October 1, 2011: Successful completion of training program in either Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, or Vascular Technology, and an Associate of Science or higher degree. Current employees: Successful completion of training program in either Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, Vascular Technology, Medical Assisting, plus an Associate degree or higher. Experience: Two (2) years experience as a full‑time ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred. Licenses / Certifications: Must have and maintain one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – ARDMS (ABD or OBGYN) American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (S) or ARRT (VS) Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RVS) Essential Job Functions Maintains skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography. Assists physicians in performing ultrasound‑guided biopsies and other invasive procedures. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Responsible for the proper use of the Radiology Computer System (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges). Follows safety policies and procedures applicable to the job, recognizes impending crisis situations and institutes measures (such as adjusting priorities) to prevent further complications. Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Additional Job Functions May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non‑controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Supports the mission and vision of South Texas Radiology Imaging Centers (STRIC) and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times. Understands and is committed to helping STRIC and its associated facilities achieve its goals. Must learn and comply with system and facility safety policies and rules; use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. Adheres to the Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands and enforces system, departmental policies and procedures, as well as established rules and regulations. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students. Completes other duties as assigned. Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
