Senior Property Accountant

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Property Accountant to join a growing commercial real estate organization in Jersey City, NJ. This hybrid position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with a strong foundation in commercial property accounting and expertise using Yardi . The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and CAM reconciliations across a portfolio of commercial properties.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and review property-level financial statements in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
• Perform detailed CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and tenant recoveries.
• Assist with the annual budgeting and forecasting process for assigned properties.
• Analyze property operating results, variances, and key financial metrics.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate with property management teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and budgeting.
• Support annual audits and provide required financial documentation and analysis.
• Prepare management reports and financial presentations for senior leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant commercial property accounting experience.
• Strong background as a Senior Accountant with experience in:
• Financial statement preparation
• General ledger accounting
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Month-end and year-end close
• Variance analysis
• CAM reconciliations
• Advanced experience with Yardi is required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and commercial real estate accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with property management and operational teams.

Preferred Background

• Commercial office, industrial, retail, or mixed-use property accounting experience.
• Experience managing multiple properties and entities within a real estate portfolio.
• Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
