Media Communication Specialist

Position Information Entry-level professional with limited prior experience; learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity; works on assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision-making. Employees at this level are expected to acquire the skills and knowledge to perform more advanced work following an agreed‑upon time in position, through defined training and development planning. A dynamic and detail-oriented Communications, Marketing, and Analytics Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing our online presence, engaging prospective students and employers, and effectively communicating career outcomes, events, and program value to prospective students digitally. This individual will be instrumental in supporting the Admissions, Recruitment, Academic Affairs, and Career Services teams, supporting undergraduate and graduate business programs by developing and executing strategic communication initiatives and creating compelling educational and promotional materials. This position creates high‑quality visual assets through photography, videography, and editing. The full salary range for the Media Communication Specialist is $53,100 – $89,700. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $53,100 – $80,550 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Requirements Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Experience Requirements 0–1 years of related experience. 6 months of experience with Higher Education. Minimum Requirements Basic knowledge of concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations. Basic skills in social media and electronic communications to disseminate messages to target audiences. Basic written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen. Basic organizational skills. Skill to maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Basic knowledge of the location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, programs and infrastructure. Proven experience in digital marketing, including social media management, email marketing, and website content management. A working knowledge of platforms like Canva, Video Editor, and apps like CapCut is encouraged. Knowledge of cinematography, typography, lighting, and audio to deliver professional and engaging content. The position involves operating video and photography gear, managing shoots, and producing polished digital assets. Strong technical skills in editing and post‑production are essential to support marketing campaigns across the web, social, and print channels. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable insights. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and strong editing abilities. Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or similar). Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, or Salesforce/TargetX). Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) (e.g., WordPress, Drupal). Knowledge of SEO best practices is a plus. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. A creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and engaging audiences.
