Director of Business Services

Overview Rutgers School of Social Work, ranked #12 among MSW programs in the nation, offers BASW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees to over 2,000 students across Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick. The School seeks a Director of Business Services to serve as the chief business and human resources officer, responsible for fiscal management, policy implementation, and overall administrative oversight. Responsibilities Lead financial planning and budget administration, developing short‑ and long‑term budgets aligned with the University’s RCM model; prepare forecasts and financial analyses. Direct business services operations and staff supervision across accounting, HR, grants, and facilities functions, including hiring, training, performance management, and operational oversight. Ensure financial accountability and compliance for 130+ projects and $80M+ in funds, monitoring reconciliations and internal controls. Approve and oversee financial transactions, including purchases, journal entries, reimbursements, consultant agreements, and invoices. Manage payroll processing and reconciliation for salaried and hourly employees, and coordinate faculty, adjunct, and practicum appointments. Provide HR guidance and labor contract administration, advising on policies, benefits, appointments, and collective bargaining requirements. Support grant and contract budget management, collaborating with research staff to develop proposal budgets and monitor sponsor compliance. Maintain financial reporting and operational analysis, preparing reports, forecasting, reconciliations, and year‑end close activities. Foster cross‑functional communication and collaboration, building strong working relationships across departments and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. Drive continuous improvement and strategic initiatives, streamlining processes, modernizing systems, and providing ad‑hoc reporting and operational solutions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of general accounting principles. Five (5) years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting/business function. Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, customer‑service, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, handle sensitive situations, and meet tight deadlines. Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field and experience in a higher‑education setting. Working Conditions Full time; 37.50 standard hours. Position may be eligible for a fully remote work arrangement upon approval.
