Department of Spanish & Portuguese - Unit 18 Lecturer

Position Overview The Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a part‑time Lecturer position to teach lower division Spanish courses in the 2026-2027 academic year as needed. The field of specialization is open, but an ability to teach all levels of the Spanish language, including Spanish for Heritage Speakers, is ideal. Successful candidates will have experience and competence in teaching language courses at the college level. Class assignment, instructional hours, and office hours are at the discretion of the department. Classes run Monday through Friday, normally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience; a reasonable estimate is $70,977 to $77,561 based on a percentage of a full‑time appointment. The appointment is renewable contingent on department teaching needs and demonstration of excellence in teaching. Shared office space and access to campus library, copier, and computer facilities are provided. The appointment is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Qualifications Degree: Ph.D. in Spanish, applied linguistics, or a related field preferred; MA holders will also be considered. Teaching experience: Experience teaching Spanish at the college level. Subject expertise: Linguistics, heritage language pedagogy, second language acquisition, history of Spanish, Latinx cultures, and/or sociolinguistics. Language proficiency: Native or near‑native Spanish and English competence.
