Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Tampa, FL (Tuesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM) Pay range: $34.00+ per hour. Eligible external candidate may receive a $10,000 sign‑on bonus. Provide support in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects as assigned. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Support laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time, including STAT or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits have accurate receive, expiration, and opening dates. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Inform supervisory personnel of problems affecting test procedures. Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as required. Assist supervisor with training other laboratory personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or work‑practice controls as directed. Answer questions from clients or lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required work experience : One year of full‑time experience or training (high‑complexity testing) in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred work experience : Minimum of three years of clinical experience, most recent year in the present department. Physical and mental requirements : Ability to lift and carry objects up to 10 lb frequently, 11–25 lb occasionally, 36–50 lb seldom, and over 50 lb only with assistance. Ability to stand and work at bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use of a variety of manual and automated pipettes and instruments requiring manual dexterity. Knowledge : Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in the designated specialty. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14 1990). Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.–educated candidates must provide an original transcript. Detail‑oriented, independent, able to establish priorities, multitask for maximum efficiency. Interpersonal skills for courteous interaction with supervisors, coworkers, and clients. Communication skills for telephone inquiries. Discretion with client information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Education : Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (Preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (Preferred).
