Job Description

Our client, a reputable and expanding multi-specialty medical practice located in the Hudson Valley, is hiring a Nurse Practitioner, Gastroenterology . This role offers an opportunity to join a patient-centered environment dedicated to delivering high-quality care and improving community health outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner in Gastroenterology will play a vital role in providing comprehensive, patient-focused care alongside physicians and clinical support staff. The successful candidate will perform health assessments, manage complex gastrointestinal conditions, order and interpret diagnostic tests, develop and execute treatment plans, prescribe medications, and participate in hospital rounds. This position emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, quality patient care, and continuous improvement within a supportive work setting.


Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to deliver seamless patient care across various settings.
• Conduct hospital rounds for new consults and follow-up patients, assisting with discharge planning.
• Gather comprehensive medical, physical, and psycho-social histories, and perform thorough physical exams tailored to patient age and history.
• Perform preventive screening procedures based on clinical guidelines and patient demographics.
• Identify medical risks, update and document health status accurately in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings and diagnostic tests.
• Order, interpret, and review laboratory and diagnostic tests within protocol guidelines.
• Develop patient education plans and provide counseling to improve health literacy.
• Prescribe, administer, and monitor pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
• Make appropriate referrals to specialists and community resources as needed.
• Reassess patient progress, modify treatment plans accordingly, and evaluate outcomes.
• Document all care activities in EMR promptly and accurately, ensuring proper coding.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
• Ensure respectful, compassionate treatment of patients and their families, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Support interdisciplinary approaches by consulting with other departments to meet patient needs.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with active NYS licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a gastroenterology or related setting; equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
• Proven ability to perform advanced health assessments and decision-making processes.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform under stressful situations with flexibility.
• Knowledge of EMR systems, coding, and documentation standards.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development through attending clinical updates and in-services.
• Demonstrated adherence to regulatory requirements and standards.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional ethics.
