Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Not specified Certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred, CCRN a plus Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 solid years of CVICU experience. - Ability to care for patients immediately and without issue. - Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and communication. - Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. - Experience with interpreting strips and titrating drips. - Compassion, time management, and positive attitude. Description: This unit has 20 beds, all private and monitored. The Nurse-Patient Ratios vary from 1:1, 1:2, to 2:1 depending on patient acuity. The patient population includes post open-heart surgical patients. Common diagnoses include CABG, valve replacements, dissections, vascular procedures, and cardiac-related events requiring intensive care. Specialty intervention equipment utilized includes IABPs, Impellas, and ECMO. Knowledge of equipment and patient population is essential; training is not provided. Registered Nurses are required to titrate multiple drips, including but not limited to dopamine, levophed, and insulin. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present 24/7, and are involved in patient care. Patient care techs assist, with ratios of 1:12-1:15. Providers are on-site or on-call 24/7. Respiratory therapists are available around the clock. Registered Nurses are expected to read and interpret their own strips as all patients are monitored. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday work is also required on an alternating schedule. Floating to different levels of care may be necessary, with expectations of taking a full team. Scrubs must be appropriate in appearance, clean, and not overly tight or loose. The unit seeks individuals proficient in cardiovascular ICU components, excluding immediate post-operative care. Frequent use of temporary pacemakers, swans, CVCs, and arterial lines is common. The cancellation policy allows for cancellation up to 12 hours every 13 weeks. Charting is performed using EPIC.
