Job Summary FreeWheel, a Comcast company, offers ad platforms for publishers, advertisers, and media buyers. The Junior Software Engineer will develop software for the Ad Serving team, which supports FreeWheel’s demand side platform (DSP) that processes billions of ad auctions per day and implements complex bidding strategies in milliseconds. Essential Functions The Jr Software Engineer is expected to: Produce high‑quality software. Function effectively as a member of a team. Interact with management and other development group members. Continually seek to improve themselves and the company. The Jr Software Engineer must demonstrate the following: Effective teamwork within the department and company. Good analytical abilities, attention to detail, and strong verbal/written communication skills. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously when requested. Proficiency with a range of technologies, programming languages, and applications. Capability to write quality software within reasonable timeframes based on provided designs and specifications. Preferred Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1+ years of professional experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming. Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming concepts. Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git. Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment. Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities. Excellent communication skills. Go‑lang experience is a plus. Ad‑tech experience is a plus. Core Responsibilities Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and cloud‑based systems. Write, maintain, and deploy cloud‑based software and distributed computational systems using Linux. Develop software and software architecture using C++. Execute development, testing, and deployment of new software features and improvements to cloud‑based infrastructure, applying scalable design patterns. Use data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake) and distributed databases (e.g., Aerospike). Analyze and optimize algorithm performance; document all development activity. Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, and formal recommendations. Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products; review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to assigned projects. Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements and determine integration needs. Work with the Quality Assurance team to confirm that applications meet specifications and technical requirements. Review code and follow software best practices. Consistently exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. Maintain regular, punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary. Other duties and responsibilities are assigned as necessary.
