Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Telemetry unit position requiring cardiac telemetry experience, NC or compact RN license, and comfort with high patient turnover.

Details

• Primary cardiac and stroke unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes stable pre/post pacemaker, ICD, and cardiac catheterization patients, TR bands, uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular and cardiac interventions without sheaths, unstable angina, low risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
• Manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration capability
• Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, with surge capacity up to 6 patients
• High patient turnover of approximately 78-90 patients per week
• Unit includes a team lead to assist with admissions and discharges
• Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients using Opti-flow and BiPAP for chronic/stable use only
• Uses telemetry monitoring, pulse ox, high flow O2, and non-rebreather masks (palliative use only)
• EMR system is EPIC (Dimensions), with Pyxis for medication and SBAR for communication
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, 3x per week
• Contract length available 13-26 weeks with option for 36 hours per week
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
• Floating required within or near the facility
• On-call requirement with frequency dependent on patient census
• Self-scheduling available with leadership oversight; no block scheduling permitted

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required, including for first-time travelers
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy required
• Experience managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team activation required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission)
• Current state board of nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive cardiac telemetry nursing care in a high-acuity, fast-paced unit with frequent patient turnover
• Collaborate with a dedicated team lead who assists with admissions and discharges
• Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, permitted along with Novant t-shirts; jackets must match uniform material and color; no crocs with holes allowed
• Unit orientation totals 36 hours, and travelers must be available every day during week one for hospital orientation
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they meet the minimum experience requirement
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (permanent, PRN, or EP staff) must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure of hospital name and employment dates required at submission along with facility approval
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a lower rate
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and none is allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed but must be on different units, have their own transportation, and be comfortable with different schedules
• Required to complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for this acute care role)
