Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Nature of Work To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member. Duties and Responsibilities Screens, selects, directs and evaluates performance of certificated and classified staff members. Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy. Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities. Motivates employee performance and enhances morale. Administers a balanced budget and operates a school under a decentralized management system. Understands the philosophy for the school that matches the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of the students. Demonstrates positive attitude toward the job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder. Supervises and manages site operation to assure safety and efficiency. Develops master schedules and calendars to maximize the achievement of program objectives. Visualizes and implements change. Performs other related duties as needed. Minimum Training and Experience Master’s degree or higher with successful assistant principal experience. Must be NC Licensed in administration. Essential Job Functions Physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc., and to drive a motor vehicle. Can exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Ability to compare and judge observable functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things. Ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, and policies using prescribed formats. Ability to apply logical and scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; deal with abstract and concrete variables. Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, perform arithmetic operations, use decimals and percentages, and apply descriptive statistics, statistical inference, and statistical theory. Ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adaptable to performing under stress and emergency situations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Conceptualizes broad school goals and plans to ensure procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total program. Ensures the school program is compatible with the legal, financial, and organizational structure of the system; defines staff responsibilities and accountability. Provides activities that facilitate professional growth of staff and enhance instructional quality. Identifies annual objectives for instructional, extra‑curricular, and athletic programs. Ensures classroom instructional objectives are developed and involves faculty in specific curricular objectives. Establishes, implements, and evaluates procedures for daily school routine. Evaluates student progress and maintains up‑to‑date student data; supervises and appraises staff performance. Maintains inter‑school communications, seeks central office assistance, and builds relationships with students, staff, and parents. Orients and assists new staff and students, providing opportunities for input into the program. Encourages use of community resources, cooperates in using school facilities, interprets the program for the community, and maintains community communication. Manages records on materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for daily routine; involves staff in prioritizing instructional supplies. Organizes, oversees, and supports services, supplies, materials, and equipment; uses community resources.
