Fleet Maintenance Manager (Heavy E)

• Responsible for all maintenance and repair of the entire fleet.
• Supervision of all Shop, Field Service and Field Maintenance employees.
• Responsible for Management of Service Facility and Service Vehicles.
• Responsible for scheduling downtime for repair and maintenance in shop and the field.
• Also, responsible for unscheduled downtime caused by vehicle and machine breakdown.
• Managing the fleet to 100% availability goal.
• As a facility manager is responsible for the operation, coordination, and quality control of a repair facility.
• Maintains inventories of stocks, tools, workshop equipment and other supplies.
• Oversees the overhauling and rebuilding of trucks, tractors, pumps, cranes, and other standard or specialized gasoline, diesel, and manually operated machinery and equipment.
• Oversees the receipt and checking of new vehicles and equipment for compliance to specifications.
• Ensure proper right-to-know and other OSHA regulations are followed for the safety of all employees.
• Diagnoses difficult problems and recommends repairs.
• Contacts dealers on heavy equipment warranties.
• Prepares cost and material estimates.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Considerable knowledge of the supervisory techniques.
• Ability to plan and direct the work of shop staff
• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of heavy equipment.
• Ability to monitor and evaluate problems and organizational performance in order to assess efficiency and effectiveness.

CAT Equipment Systems knowledge
Must have 5 experience repairing the following:
• Dump Trucks
• Excavator
• Wheel Loader
• Backhoe
• Compactors
• Skid Steer Loader

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage fleet maintenance operations with a goal of maximizing equipment availability and minimizing downtime.
- Lead shop and field maintenance teams responsible for heavy equipment repair, diagnostics, inspections, and service.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, overhauls, and equipment rebuilds.
- Maintain service facility operations, parts inventory, tools, equipment, safety compliance, and quality standards.

- 3 to 5 years of relevant fleet maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or repair facility leadership experience.
- At least 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining dump trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, backhoes, compactors, and skid steer loaders.
- Strong knowledge of CAT equipment systems.
- Considerable knowledge of standard heavy equipment repair practices, materials, tools, and diagnostic methods.
- Ability to supervise technicians, assign work, evaluate performance, and improve maintenance department efficiency.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex equipment problems and recommend effective repairs.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements, right-to-know regulations, and safe shop operating practices.
- Ability to prepare repair estimates, manage parts and supply needs, and communicate effectively with dealers, vendors, technicians, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior experience managing a heavy equipment repair facility in the construction industry.
- Experience overseeing both shop-based repairs and mobile field service operations.
- Background coordinating warranty repairs with heavy equipment dealers.
- Strong understanding of fleet uptime metrics, preventive maintenance programs, and equipment lifecycle management.
