Duties & Responsibilities

(NOTE: ** denotes Essential Functions)

• ** Be the lead support on a team to manage and support Linux based Web Servers.
• ** Provide excellent customer service for end-user support for troubleshooting workstations (PC/Macintosh), Local Area Networks (LAN), and voice over Internet Phones.
• ** Performs in-depth technical advisement and problem resolution on Intel-based and Apple hardware and software problems, including operating system (OS), file operations, local and networked printing.
• ** Performs moderately complex installations and troubleshoots the use of Leeward-supported applications and clients, TCP/IP client installations (e.g., Telnet, VPN, FTP, Putty, web, and email clients, network setup, and connection).
• ** Identify, analyze, and resolve/troubleshoot device application problems. Escalate as necessary to ensure resolution.
• ** Provide technical support and advice to Linux and Windows systems administrators, database administrators, and network and AV engineers as required to resolve problems.
• ** Design, develop, test, and document programs and scripts that automate routine tasks for Windows, Linux, and other systems.
• ** Design, develop, test, and document status reporting programs to gather performance measurements used for capacity planning, reporting, and activities for Windows, Linux, and other systems.
• ** Install, configure, and optimize Windows, Linux, and other operating systems.
• ** Install, test, and document Windows, Linux, and other security patches.
• ** Serves as technical support to non-technical administrators, staff, and other IT professionals in providing all microcomputer technical support and services.
• ** Assists in developing microcomputer and LAN support strategies in consultation and cooperation with management and staff supporting the University and its missions and goals. Coordinates and implements strategies.
• ** Assists with integrating microcomputer systems into LAN environments, including server, client, and peripheral equipment/installation/configuration, and connecting the LAN environments to UH Network to access enterprise applications/services.
• ** Provides technical support for moderately complex problems in a timely manner.
• Regularly monitor relevant forums where job-related issues are announced and discussed to stay informed of related problems and issues as they appear and are reported and to keep current with professional expertise.
• Develops and experiments with new ideas, techniques, and applications to increase job productivity and efficiency. Adapts written and printed documentation for electronic access and distribution, such as web-based access via PDF files or online knowledgebase.
• Provides hardware support such as installing network cards and reformatting hard disk drives when required, inventory, and e-waste
• Researches, recommends, supports, tests, and maintains microcomputer software applications that the faculty, staff, and students need to accomplish their daily tasks.
• Perform lifting up to 40 lbs., moving, and other manual work.
• Work assignments will include working outside normally scheduled work hours - day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours, as directed, at various sites of Leeward CC.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Computer Science and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for user technical support and consultation, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
• Considerable working knowledge of user technical support and consultation as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standards and evolving information technology concepts, principles, and methodology.
• Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware, and software associated with Linux and Windows system administration.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by the preparation of reports and other materials.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
• Considerable knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language.
• Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the terms, systems, hardware, and software associated with microcomputers, which includes Intel and Macintosh systems and peripheral equipment networked in a TCP/IP or related environment.
• Considerable working knowledge & understanding of systems, hardware, and software associated with LAN, applications, Internet Protocols, Internet electronic messaging systems and protocols, and database systems.
• Considerable experience with VMware virtual server management in an enterprise environment.
• Considerable knowledge of troubleshooting procedures and practices for hardware, software, and networks in a distributed computing environment.
• Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours, including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed and travel to various sites of Leeward CC in a timely manner.

Desirable Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft networking and concepts.
• Considerable experience with securely administering Linux and Windows on servers supporting production applications.
• Considerable experience with Cisco network management.
• Considerable experience with supporting WordPress, PHP, and MySQL.
• Possession of a valid Infocomm International or AVIXA Certification (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I).
• Possession of an Extron AV Associate Certification.
• Working knowledge of principles, methodologies, practices, and techniques in video, audio, and/or multimedia production that utilize non-linear editing systems, video cameras, and audio/video recorders
