Manufacturing Accounting Manager

Manufacturing Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of a manufacturing organization, including financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory controls, cash management, and internal controls. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supports strategic decision-making through financial analysis and reporting, and partners closely with operations and executive leadership to drive business performance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Summary
The role will primarily own:
- Monthly financial reporting and analysis
- Month-end and year-end close
- General ledger management
- Budgeting and forecasting support
- Manufacturing cost accounting –standard cost, product set ups, cost structure, PPV, gross margin
- Inventory controls and physical inventories
- Cash management and treasury functions
- Internal controls and audit support
- ERP and process improvement initiatives
- Supervision and development of accounting staff
Core Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Develop and maintain management reports, board reporting and key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational dashboards.
- Analyze financial results and explain variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Support year-end audits, valuation and other financial reporting requirements.
Manufacturing & Inventory Accounting
- Maintain accurate inventory accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Analyze manufacturing costs, labor utilization, material consumption, and production variances.
- Monitor standard costing systems and assist with periodic cost updates.
- Review cycle count results, inventory adjustments, and physical inventory reconciliations.
- Partner with operations leadership to improve inventory accuracy and operational performance.
- Identify and communicate cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Monitor daily cash activity and maintain cash forecasts.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow projections.
- Coordinate cash requirements for payroll, vendor payments, debt service, and operational needs.
- Monitor compliance with lending agreements and reporting requirements.
- Prepare cash reporting and liquidity analysis for management.
- Assist with banking and treasury management activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve working capital and cash flow performance.
Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
- Oversee general ledger accounting activities and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Review account reconciliations and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial processes.
- Assist with audit preparation and compliance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within accounting and reporting processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate with plant operations, sales, quality and executive leadership.
- Serve as a financial business partner to plant leadership and department managers.
- Participate in special projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing accounting experience required.
- Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, financial reporting, and cash management.
- Strong Excel and ERP system experience, Plex preferred.
- Ability to analyze financial and operational data and communicate findings effectively.
