What does this role look like?

The Strategic Planning Senior staff member will lead a team supporting organizational-level strategic planning, product portfolio alignment, and governance initiatives to drive growth, affordability, and operational excellence across Lockheed Martin Space and the Enterprise Performance and Improvement organization, specifically reporting to the EP&I Director of New Business and Strategic Planning. This role partners cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Finance, Strategy & Business Development, and Operations to develop actionable strategies, enable product reuse, and shape long-term roadmaps aligned to business objectives.

In this role you will have the following daily key responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Product Roadmap Integration:
    • Lead development and integration of nested product strategies and roadmaps across the portfolio, ensuring alignment with mission, market, and technology priorities
    • Conduct internal and external strategic assessments to identify market trends, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities
    • Support strategic campaigns, business pursuits, and long-range planning efforts across domestic and international markets
  • Product Portfolio Governance & Reuse Strategy:
    • Drive adoption, governance, and execution of the Preferred Product Reuse Catalog, ensuring alignment to strategic market needs
    • Establish and lead governance forums (e.g., Product Review Boards) to guide product selection, transitions, and lifecycle decisions
    • Define and maintain portfolio baselines (e.g., major product lines) to enable standardization and scalability
  • Cost, Value, and Business Case Optimization:
    • Lead cost takeout initiatives by identifying and quantifying savings driven by product commonality and reuse
    • Conduct financial modeling, scenario analysis, and trade studies to support strategic decision-making
    • Develop business cases and resourcing strategies to enable execution of strategic initiatives
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution:
    • Lead cross-functional teams and workshops to align stakeholders, validate assumptions, and drive consensus on strategic initiatives
    • Partner across Strategy & Business Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to ensure strategies are executable and aligned with enterprise priorities
    • Manage multiple high-visibility initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Data Analytics & Decision Support:
    • Develop and leverage data models, dashboards, and visualizations to provide actionable insights to executive leadership
    • Translate complex data into clear, concise recommendations for senior stakeholders

To be effective, ideally, you should also have:

  • Experience within aerospace, defense, or high-technology industries.
  • Deep understanding of product portfolio management, reuse strategies, and lifecycle governance.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level initiatives and operating models (e.g., digital transformation, common product frameworks).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing directly with senior executives and leading strategic forums.
  • Proficiency with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Excel, Power BI).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive measurable business impact (cost reduction, growth, efficiency gains).
  • Experience building and developing product metrics and strategies.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $122,900 - $216,660. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $141,300 - $244,835. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
