Job Description

The Production Operator safely and efficiently operates manual, automatic, and material-handling equipment to combine ingredients and prepare bakery products such as bread and cakes according to specific recipes and production schedules. This role follows established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), standard operating procedures (SOP), and food safety standards while maintaining accurate production records and ensuring product quality throughout processing and packaging.

2ND SHIFT: 2;30pm - 11pm - Monday to Friday

3RD SHIFT: 10:30pm - 7am - Sunday night to Friday morning

Responsibilities

• Operate manual and automatic production and material-handling equipment safely and efficiently to combine ingredients for bakery products according to recipes and production schedules.
• Review and interpret MES (Manufacturing Execution System) production orders to plan and execute daily tasks.
• Inspect finished goods for damage, cleanliness, expiration dates, and lot code accuracy, and take corrective actions when needed.
• Ensure the production line is properly sanitized by following specified SOP procedures before and after operations.
• Complete pre-flight checklists prior to starting tasks to verify equipment readiness and compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Keep all tools and equipment in reliable working condition by performing basic care and promptly reporting issues.
• Use the MES system to record production data accurately and in a timely manner.
• Understand and execute all allergen regulations according to SOPs to prevent cross-contamination.
• Perform quality checks on the production line, document results, and complete all required quality paperwork.
• Report downtime accurately in the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) system and support efforts to reduce downtime.
• Monitor and interpret the OEE system to help improve line efficiency and performance.
• Operate the packaging machine to ensure correct packaging, labeling, and coding of finished products.
• Follow all GMP, SQF, and SOP requirements, including hygiene, safety, and documentation standards.
• Participate in cross-training on Level 2 (L2) equivalent work in both processing and packaging as business needs arise.
• Perform all job functions pertinent to the process, including batching, bagging, and general food production tasks.
• Use scanning technology and production computer screens as instructed to support traceability and inventory control.
• Communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing, to follow instructions, document work, and coordinate with team members.
• Maintain a strong attendance record and adhere to scheduled work hours, including overtime when required by business needs.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience working in a highly intensive and physical work environment, preferably in a manufacturing setting operating under GMP standards.
• Demonstrated experience directly related to production, machine operation, or similar operations that align with the required skills and processes.
• Ability to operate manual and automatic production equipment, including packaging machinery and material-handling equipment.
• Basic computer literacy, including the ability to use production computer screens and understand operating systems as instructed.
• Ability to learn and use MES systems for recording production data and OEE systems for monitoring line performance.
• Ability to learn and use scanning technology for production and inventory processes.
• Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written, including the ability to read and understand system instructions, SOPs, and training materials and execute them accurately.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures consistently.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks in a high-intensity production environment.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime when mandated in accordance with applicable agreements.
• Attendance record in good standing, with less than 5 attendance points as defined by internal policy.
• Ability to pass required skill assessments with passing scores as defined by company policy.
• Ability to pass a company physical examination as required for the role.
• Ability to work in a GMP/SOP environment, including wearing hair nets, safety glasses, and other required personal protective equipment.
• Completion or willingness to complete SQF training, GMP training, and SOP training as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food production, general production, or batching operations.
• Experienced in environments related to food, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Experience as a machine operator or in general production roles involving automated and manual equipment.
• Comfort with math skills relevant to batching, measuring ingredients, and recording production data.
• Familiarity with CGMP and HAACP guidelines in a food manufacturing environment.
• Ability to cross-train and perform both processing and packaging Level 2 (L2) tasks.
• Strong attention to detail for inspecting finished goods, verifying lot codes, and checking expiration dates.
• Reliability and long-term commitment to working in a plant environment with a history of long tenure among employees.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food manufacturing environment that complies with all current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) and HAACP guidelines. Work takes place primarily on the production floor, which is not climate controlled; it can be cold during the winter and hot during the summer, and employees should be comfortable working in these conditions. The position operates on a third shift schedule, typically from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime available as needed. Employees must adhere to all CGMP policies, including wearing required personal protective equipment such as hair nets, safety glasses, and other protective gear. Work boots are required, and no jewelry is allowed on the production floor to maintain food safety standards. The environment involves working around production machinery, packaging equipment, and computer-based systems, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, sanitation, and adherence to SOPs and food safety requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pennsauken, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $22.41 - $22.89/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
