Employee In Charge (EIC)

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking experienced individuals who understand the dedication required to work on the railroad as an Employee in Charge in Tucson, AZ. The EIC position is a vital role ensuring that work on the rights‑of‑way is conducted safely. Job Description Provide essential on‑track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners. Coordinate train movements, prepare field reports, communicate with dispatchers and crew, and enforce railroad, state, and federal policies. Job Requirements Proficiency in using tablets, smartphones, and communication tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time. Valid driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance‑of‑way department. Ability to successfully complete Federal, client, and/or company‑specific training. Job Duties Set up derails, track signs, and other safety tools. Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations. Provide job‑site coordination. Maintain radio contact with dispatchers and train crews to communicate worksite safety status. Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings before crew enters track. Enforce all railroad, state, and federal policies. Work Environment Operates in a field environment alongside active tracks. Travel is expected from 50 % to 85 % of the time.
