Position Summary \n
\nWe are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to provide comprehensive psychiatric care within a state-operated hospital facility in Indiana. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for patient evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and clinical leadership. This role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to support recovery-focused treatment and ensure the delivery of high-quality psychiatric services.\n

The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex psychiatric populations, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to provide leadership in treatment planning and patient care. \n

Key Responsibilities \n
\nConduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and diagnostic reviews.\n
\nDiagnose mental health conditions by analyzing patient histories, clinical data, and test findings.\n
\nDevelop, implement, and oversee individualized treatment plans.\n
\nPrescribe and manage psychiatric medications and monitor treatment effectiveness.\n
\nProvide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and recovery goals.\n
\nServe as a clinical leader on interdisciplinary treatment teams.\n
\nCollaborate with psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care.\n
\nProvide clinical direction and recommendations for complex psychiatric cases.\n
\nReview treatment plans, diagnostic evaluations, and patient progress.\n
\nMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies and professional standards.\n
\nParticipate in hospital committees, quality improvement initiatives, and program development activities.\n
\nProvide guidance and supervision to medical trainees, students, and other clinical staff as assigned.\n
\nApply evidence-based psychiatric practices while maintaining compliance with medical staff bylaws, state regulations, and ethical standards.\n

Required Qualifications \n
\nMD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.\n
\nBoard Certification or Board Eligibility in General Psychiatry.\n
\nCompletion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.\n
\nActive, unrestricted Indiana Medical License.\n
\nCurrent CPR Certification.\n
\n
Minimum 3 years of experience in: \n
\nCollaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.\n
\nLeading treatment planning and providing clinical direction.\n
\nEvaluating patient data and diagnosing psychiatric disorders.\n
\nManaging high-pressure situations and utilizing de-escalation techniques.\n
\n
Preferred Qualifications \n
\nPrevious experience working in a state psychiatric hospital setting.\n
\nExperience treating adult psychiatric and forensic populations.\n
\nExperience with Cerner EMR.\n
\nExperience managing patients with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI).\n
\n
Knowledge & Skills \n
\nAdvanced knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation principles.\n
\nStrong understanding of human behavior, psychological assessment, and evidence-based interventions.\n
\nAbility to analyze complex clinical information and make sound medical decisions.\n
\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills.\n
\nAbility to build effective professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams.\n
\nStrong leadership and clinical decision-making abilities.\n

Work Environment \n
\nState-operated hospital setting with adult psychiatric and forensic patients.\n
\nRequires a high level of clinical judgment, awareness, and safety consideration.\n
\nMay involve responding to urgent patient situations requiring immediate intervention.\n
\nPosition requires extended periods of sitting, walking, and occasional physical activity to assist with patient safety and care.\n

Schedule & Assignment Details \n
\nFull-time, on-site position (40 hours/week).\n
\nMonday–Friday schedule with some flexibility.\n
\nNo required on-call or weekend coverage; optional opportunities may be available.\n
\nCaseload includes responsibility for 2–15 bed psychiatric units.\n
\n
Initial orientation period: \n
\nWeek 1: General hospital orientation.\n
\nWeek 2: Department-specific orientation.\n
\nAdditional mentorship before independent practice.\n
\nAssignment duration: 6 months with potential extension or transition to a state position.
