ASCP Medical Lab Technician

This role involves performing clinical testing across various disciplines including hematology, immunology, microbiology, clinical microscopy, chemistry, coagulation, and blood banking, all while adhering to strict regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately perform and verify routine and specialized laboratory tests with minimal supervision.
• Manage reagent preparation and storage, troubleshoot analyzer issues, and ensure quality control compliance with thorough documentation.
• Prioritize workload effectively to meet testing requests and maintain department productivity.
• Communicate critical results promptly to healthcare providers and document accordingly.
• Assist in training new staff and contribute to updating procedural manuals and policies.
• Conduct pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical assessments, addressing specimen issues for both in-house and reference testing.

Education: An associate degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific field is required.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary for registered Medical Laboratory Technicians.

Certification: Certification or board eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician through recognized agencies such as ASCP, ISCLT, HHS, AMT, or NCA is required upon hire.

Physical and Mental Requirements: This position demands close mental and visual attention for extended periods, often under time-sensitive and stressful conditions. Approximately 90% of the time involves moving throughout the department and working at lab stations. Ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds is necessary.

Working Environment: Expect regular exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious materials in a climate-controlled lab setting with moderate noise levels. Flexibility to work various shifts is required.
