Clinical Resource Nurse

Job Requirements A Resource Nurse is responsible for providing direct support to all members of the nursing division, including new hires, nurse leaders, and all nursing services at UM Shore Regional Health (UMSRH). The role ensures safe, high-quality, and compassionate patient care through expert‑level bedside education, coaching, mentoring, and guidance in collaboration with the healthcare team. The Resource Nurse serves as a clinical expert, communicating regularly with charge nurses, managers, directors, educators, nurse residents, and preceptors to facilitate the successful transition of new nursing hires. The Resource Nurse also responds to all medical emergencies, Code Blue, brain attacks, and clinical emergency alerts. Provides feedback and coaching to new graduates, new hires, and the orientation team (manager, educator, preceptor, director), applying professional nursing knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Monitors and performs rounds on all adult inpatient units and the Emergency Department (ED) or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for “border” patients. Rounds include observation, medical, surgical, critical care, heart and vascular, adult obstetrics, and inpatient/outpatient PACU units. Rounding on psychiatry is requested by unit charge nurses. Conducts reviews of patients identified as “at risk” using the NEWS score, vital signs, lab results, diagnostic results, and use of antibiotics or supplemental O2. High‑risk patients include those requiring NIPPV, high‑flow nasal cannula, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, or recent procedures with or without sedation. Rounds on patients transferred from the critical care unit or higher level of care within the last 24 hours. Supports the bedside RN in assessing patients for normal vital signs and diagnostic trends, identifying changes that may require further evaluation. In non‑urgent deteriorating patients, reviews potential causes of abnormal vital sign trends or diagnostics. Assists with patient management and expedites necessary treatment interventions until the patient is transferred. Documents assessments, treatments, interventions, communication, and care delivered by the Resource Nurse in all aspects of the medical record as care is completed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Work Experience Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. Current license in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or a compact state. Five (5) years of RN experience, at least two (2) years in critical care. Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS‑HCP) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Preferred Qualifications Master of Science in Nursing. Certification in CCRN, CEN, or CMC. Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensure Registered Nurse licensure in Maryland or through compact state agreements. BSN with specialty certification or master’s degree in a health‑related field. Current BLS certification. Must meet all unit‑specific certification requirements (ACLS, PAL, NRP). Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
