Job DescriptionUNMH’s contract with MDC ends in July 2027. At that time, UNMH positions currently supporting MDC will have options to transition to the new health care provider at MDC or into the UNM Health System.Additional $6.00/hr. Provides wound care and splints as required. Provide a safe, clean environment and stocks patient care areas. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.Detailed responsibilities:PATIENT CARE - Assist nursing staff/physicians in complicated treatment procedures; perform routine treatment proceduresPATIENT CARE - Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notifies a nurse and/or physicianRECORDS & SUPPORT - Maintain record keeping and filing system; make photocopies; run errands; perform other support duties as assignedEQUIPMENT - Assist with the provision of administrative support in regards to equipment maintenance, calibration and statistical data compilationPOLICY & PROCEDURE - Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standardsASSIST - Assist the nurse in the management of observation unit patientsDEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshopsPATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocolsPATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processesPATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue riskPATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely mannerPATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"QualificationsEducation:Essential:* High School or GED EquivalentExperience:Essential:1/2 year (6 months) directly related experienceNonessential:Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo Bilingual English/SpanishCredentials:Essential:CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 daysEmergency Medical Technician Basic LicensePhysical Conditions:Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
