About the Role:

The Charge Medical Technologist plays a critical leadership role within the clinical laboratory, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of laboratory tests that directly impact patient care. This position involves overseeing daily laboratory operations, coordinating workflow among technologists and technicians, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The Charge Medical Technologist acts as a key liaison between laboratory staff and management, facilitating communication and problem-solving to optimize efficiency and quality. They are responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, validating new testing procedures, and mentoring junior staff to uphold high professional standards. Ultimately, this role ensures that laboratory services operate smoothly, safely, and effectively to support diagnostic and treatment decisions across healthcare settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a recognized certifying agency such as ASCP or AMT.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, with demonstrated proficiency in various laboratory testing methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, quality control procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and leading a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a charge or supervisory role within a clinical laboratory.
• Advanced certifications or specialized training in areas such as microbiology, hematology, or molecular diagnostics.
• Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health record (EHR) integration.
• Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of medical technologists and laboratory technicians to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards.
• Perform complex laboratory tests and analyses, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results in accordance with established protocols.
• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical problems, and oversee routine maintenance and calibration.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA standards, and participate in internal and external audits.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff, fostering professional development and maintaining a collaborative team environment.
• Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, placing orders as necessary to prevent disruptions in testing services.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and laboratory management to address issues, implement process improvements, and support patient care objectives.
