Assistant Professor of Interior Design

Park University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Interior Design beginning August 2024.

The successful candidate will be prepared to teach a range of courses in the interior design curriculum and demonstrate a commitment to scholarly research and/or professional practice. The person in this position also will serve as program coordinator for Interior Design. Program Coordinator duties include overseeing the interior design program, updating the curriculum, program assessment and review, scheduling classes, advising all interior design majors, hiring and supervising adjunct faculty, maintaining the interior design studio and working with IT to maintain the computer lab.

Required Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Interior Design or a closely related field.

A minimum of five years of professional practice in interior design plus college level teaching experience is desired.

The education and experience required to obtain professional licensing: National Council of Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) or National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

A candidate who does not meet the stated requirements, but has unique qualifications such as exceptional professional experience, may be considered for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in Interior Design or a closely related field.

A minimum of five years of professional practice in interior design

Teaching experience at the college level

Professional licensing: NCIDQ preferred.

About the Interior Design program:

Park University's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design combines a professional program with a liberal arts education. Lecture classes, design studios, technical skills training and professional practice opportunities are augmented by solid liberal arts coursework, giving Park graduates a well-rounded educational experience that prepares them for careers in interior design.

The interior design program is part of the Department of Art and Design. Since these are professional fields, it essential that Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Interior Design faculty maintain a curiosity and engagement in their respective professions that may take the form of practice, continuing education and/or research that adds to the body of knowledge within each discipline.
