FPGA Design Lead Research Engineer

Salary: $98,400 - 164,000 per year Requirements:

  • We require a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, or a masters degree in one of these disciplines with at least 2 years of industry experience, or a bachelors degree in one of these disciplines with at least 5 years of industry experience.
  • We are looking for 2-5 years of strong FPGA and SoC design expertise using Verilog, SystemVerilog, and VHDL.
  • We need 2-5 years of hands-on experience with Xilinx and/or Intel (Altera) FPGA devices, tools, and ecosystems such as ModelSim, Intel Quartus, and Xilinx Vivado.
  • We expect 2-5 years of solid digital logic design knowledge, including finite state machines, pipelining, and resource optimization.
  • We require 2-5 years of experience with RTL simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
  • We look for 2-5 years of knowledge of clock domain crossing techniques and metastability reduction.
  • We need 2-5 years of familiarity with high-speed and standard interfaces, including UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR.
  • We require 2-5 years of experience building testbenches and carrying out functional verification.
  • We look for 2-5 years of proficiency with on-chip debugging tools such as ILA and SignalTap.
  • We expect 2-5 years of ability to read and interpret schematics, timing diagrams, and hardware datasheets.
  • We require 2-5 years of experience using version control systems, with Git preferred.
  • We need 2-5 years of experience with high-level synthesis tools and algorithm-to-hardware workflows, including Vitis HLS and integration with MathWorks MATLAB/Simulink for model-based design and verification.
  • We require legal authorization to work in the United States, and we will not sponsor bachelors-level candidates for employment visas now or in the future for this role.
  • We require willingness to work from our office in Niskayuna, New York.
  • Experience developing real-time embedded applications on microcontrollers, FPGAs, x86, and/or ARM processors is strongly preferred.
  • Strong embedded programming skills in C, C++, C#, Python, or similar languages are preferred.
  • Experience with Linux build systems such as Yocto is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Linux driver and/or kernel development is preferred.
  • Experience writing firmware and performing low-level microcontroller programming is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of real-time operating systems such as QNX, RTLinux, or VxWorks is preferred.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as hypervisors and Docker containers is preferred.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab and Jenkins is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • We design FPGA-based solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems.
  • We use FPGA development tools to build, simulate, test, and fine-tune real-time embedded systems.
  • We help shape and pursue external funding and partnership opportunities with U.S. government agencies such as the DOE and DOD.
  • We work with GE businesses to move real-time embedded control and communication technologies from lab-scale proof points into field-ready prototypes.
  • We collaborate with universities, industrial consortiums, commercial partners, and other organizations to advance embedded systems technology.
  • We publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.
  • We support R&D programs that are intended to transition mature technologies into GE business products.
