Job Summary
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the MHS provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes. Essential Functions include: assisting the RN in providing direct patient care, accurate and timely documentation of AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets, establishing therapeutic relationships with patients, participating in patient rounds or teams, completing patient care assignments, identifying patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis, intervening in managing complex patient situations and patient schedules, communicating changes in patient status to RN, following Standards of Care and protocols for assigned patients, remaining awake and alert at all times, performing Point of Care testing (POC), working effectively in the therapeutic milieu, participating in planning and implementation of patient groups, providing and supervising recreation and other off-hall activities, providing patients with direction, support, and supervision as needed, following established Nursing policies, procedures, and protocols, participating in the maintenance of the unit environment to ensure safe care, identifying and reporting house cleaning problems, identifying and reporting equipment problems, participating in the unit's inventory system, initiating activities that assist patients in maintaining a clean environment, initiating activities that promote an organized, safe patient and staff environment, assisting patients in their activities of daily living, identifying patient hygiene needs, providing for patients' nutritional needs, assisting and reassuring patients during tests, exams, and procedures, escorting and supervising patients on and off ground, maintaining a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements, identifying areas of strengths and areas in need of professional development with supervisor, maintaining competency for treating age-specific patient populations, seeking constructive feedback, regarding work performance, from peers and professional colleagues, participating in critical incident de-briefing.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials: One year of clinical experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting 1-2 years preferred and Previous experience in direct patient care preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in collaboration with others. Must complete and pass Epic training within 30 days of hire. Successful passing (80% or higher) of Epic training modules(s) is a minimum requirement of the job.
