CarpenterFull-Time in San Francisco Bay Area, CAClassification: Non-ExemptReports to: Lead Carpenter, Foreman, or SuperintendentJOB DESCRIPTIONSummary/Objective: The Carpenter position is responsible for high quality worksmanship of high-end residential construction projects.Responsibilities:Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools.Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob, level, lasers or builder's level.Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools.Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.Protect installed work in progress and finished goods.Competencies:Critical ThinkingEquipment SelectionOperation MonitoringAttention to DetailDependabilityInitiativeCooperationIntegrityLeadershipTools used in this occupation:LaddersLevelsPower sandersPower sawsSquaresKnowledge:Building and ConstructionMathematicsMechanicalProduction and ProcessingDesignPublic Safety and SecurityCustomer and Personal ServiceRequired Experience/Training:Have a Grade 12 knowledge of Math and EnglishCommunicate by speaking English with other peoplePreferred Experience/Training:Carpentry: 5 yearsHigh-End Residential Construction: 3 yearsCarpenter Foreman: 3 yearsTrade schoolOther Duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions. Physically working on the site is essential due to the collaborative and hands-on nature of this position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, starting time between 7 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., ending time 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on the project needs, 40 hours per week.
