To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this tip sheet.The Cardio Catheterization Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and surgeries.* Inserts small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that x-rays, angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function.* Ensures the EKG equipment is in good working order. Monitors the EKG readouts and keeps the doctor apprised of anything considered abnormal. Positions patients and explains procedures.* Prepares the patients for the procedure by cleaning, shaving, and anesthetizing the area of insertion.* Assists physicians during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents.
