Assistant General Manager

Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in the overall operation of a retail facility, including team leadership, inventory management, customer service, sales performance, scheduling, and daily operations. This position serves as the manager on duty in the absence of the General Manager and plays an important role in maintaining operational standards, compliance, and a positive customer and employee experience.

Approximately 25% of this role will be dedicated to inventory-related activities, including inventory management, tracking, reconciliation, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operations of the retail facility, including staff, inventory, sales, and customer relations.
• Provide exceptional customer service and respond professionally to customer inquiries, feedback, and concerns.
• Address and resolve in-store situations promptly, professionally, and respectfully.
• Develop and maintain employee schedules based on business needs.
• Regularly walk the sales floor and serve as a resource for employees regarding products, services, operational procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Coach, develop, and support team members to promote strong performance and a positive workplace culture.
• Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members while ensuring operational and compliance standards are maintained.
• Partner closely with the General Manager to communicate company initiatives, operational updates, and expectations to the team.
• Assist with interviewing and selection of candidates under the direction of the General Manager.
• Provide ongoing training and support related to point-of-sale, inventory, and other operational systems.
• Oversee orders and deliveries to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Assist with inventory management, including receiving, tracking, reconciliation, recordkeeping, and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
• Maintain accurate records related to sales, cash handling, inventory, vendors, and customer transactions.
• Help maintain company standards, culture, and overall atmosphere within the facility.
• Ensure daily operations are conducted in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year of experience in an assistant manager, supervisory, or management role.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coach, and develop a team.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with employees and management at all levels.
• Flexibility to accommodate business needs, including weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
• Must meet applicable age requirements for the industry and position.

Physical and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, move throughout the facility, communicate with employees and customers, and operate equipment and technology necessary to perform job duties.

The employee may occasionally be required to lift and move packages weighing up to 25 pounds and may be required to stand for extended periods of time, up to approximately 90% of the workday.

The position requires the ability to hear within the normal audio range, with or without reasonable accommodation, as well as the ability to observe details closely and adjust focus as needed.
