AC Technician Module C

The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) is hiring an AC Technician Module C to support air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation maintenance and training. Responsibilities Provides leadership and guidance to journeymen and Zone Maintenance Technicians. Performs standard air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation procedures. Determines need to repair and/or replace equipment. Estimates materials required and participates in the AC Technician Pay for Knowledge and Skills Program. Provides training and demonstrates proficiency in all module tasks. Performs repair and maintenance procedures for heating and ventilation systems. Works from blueprints, specifications and schematic diagrams. Responds to service calls for air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilation systems, including controls and auxiliary components. Trains other journeymen, Zone Maintenance Technicians, or other employees on specific skills and tasks. Identifies additional training needs or defines training that would benefit staff. Monitors, adjusts, and calibrates automatic controls of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on air conditioning and refrigeration systems, including repair seals, chilled‑water or condenser‑water pumps, compressors, and pneumatic controls. Provides leadership and guidance to others who perform similar work. Sets priorities and timelines and monitors the work of others. Installs equipment and fabricates components for systems and equipment. Estimates materials required for specific job components. Fabricates components for air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems. Maintains a clean job site throughout the duration and cleans up after work completion. Maintains safe working conditions for self and others. Stores and maintains supplies, tools, and equipment. Prepares reports and/or maintenance records as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Qualifications Valid California driver’s license and participation in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. Valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – Universal certification. At least five years of experience at journeyman level. Four years of hands‑on training experience or completion of an apprenticeship program. Familiarity with city and state building codes, OSHA rules, standard safety practices, and equipment. Experience performing standard trade‑related procedures. General knowledge of trade‑related methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Experience identifying systems and/or mechanical problems. General knowledge of engineering procedures, equipment, and systems. High school diploma or equivalent education. Benefits Tuition assistance for employee and family.
