Optical Specialist

Job Summary Responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to both adults and children, working with prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. This position advises and assists patients with various lenses and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color. Core Responsibilities Carry out assigned job functions and responsibilities. Work with commitment and pride to deliver a GRAND OPENING look daily. Ensure all items are stocked and planograms executed. Maintain visible accurate signage. Keep the space clean and organized, inside and out. Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities Verify order data entry and compare prescriptions to the original provider notes for accuracy. Complete proper order filing procedures, including filing under the correct ABC system in the store. Deliver sales by providing excellent member service in person and over the phone. Explain in detail all procedures included under the exam fee, maintain open and honest communication, and keep a friendly pleasant demeanor with customers. Take measurements, ensure correct frame selection for prescription power, read prescriptions on a lensometer, and notify members of product readiness. Advance the order in the system (received, notified, dispensed) and handle all money‑related transactions accurately. Strive to meet sales and metric goals by educating patients on benefits of available products and recommending items that improve visual needs. Engage members in front of Optical during downtime. Adhere to all privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures (e.g., HIPAA) as required by law. Provide support to members in making eyeglass adjustments and repairs. Assist Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of the shift. Ensure accurate funds are collected and payments are processed at the point of service. Maintain all club policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned. Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance as an essential function. Qualifications Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep the license up to date and active. Knowledge of optical products and business practices is preferred. High school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big‑box wholesale, retail, and/or optical is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are required. Open shift availability is required for full‑time positions. Must be at least 18 years of age. Environmental Job Conditions Most of the time is spent moving about frequently on hard surfaces. May need to position oneself to examine or scan merchandise, including bending, handling, pulling, reaching, and/or stooping. Frequently requires lifting objects up to 20 pounds; may require lifting heavier objects with assistance. Operates in a comfortable indoor area with frequent exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises. May have occasional exposure to cleaning agents. Requires the use of optical hand tools to adjust and repair members’ eyeglasses, including insertion and removal of nose pads and small screws. Pay Transparency In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the estimated compensation range for this position is a starting rate of $27.00. Actual salaries will vary based on location, education, experience, and qualifications.
