Emergency Department Physician

Fulfill assigned instructional responsibilities and maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to meet contracted duties, student needs, and program responsibilities. Ensure each class session contains essential curricular components, incorporates appropriate adult-learning strategies, and reflects current EMS evidence, standards, protocols, and practice. Teach EMS courses in classroom, laboratory, simulation, online/hybrid, clinical, field, and off-campus settings assigned, while maintaining appropriate accessibility to students. Evaluate student cognitive, psychomotor, and affective performance and provide appropriate, timely feedback, remediation, and documentation. Maintain regular, appropriate, and professional communication with students, College personnel, clinical and field affiliates, preceptors, advisory committee members, employers, and other community partners. Incorporate appropriate instructional technology, simulation, learning-management systems, testing platforms, and EMS educational resources to enhance student learning. Ensure the cleanliness, readiness, safety, and proper operation of EMS instructional areas, simulation equipment, ambulances/training vehicles, medical equipment, and supplies; promptly report deficiencies or malfunctions. Participate in the evaluation, selection, acquisition, inventory, and maintenance of instructional materials, audiovisual resources, simulation equipment, medical supplies, and other program needs. Develop and distribute course syllabi, schedules, lesson materials, and student expectations in accordance with established College and program templates, policies, and deadlines. Maintain accurate and complete instructional records, including attendance, grades, skills documentation, clinical/field documentation, evaluations, rosters, reports, and other required program records. Support compliance with North Carolina Office of EMS requirements, CoAEMSP/ CAAHEP accreditation standards, program policies, minimum competency requirements, and documentation expectations. Participate in student recruitment, orientation, advising, retention efforts, and development or revision of EMS courses and programs. Build and maintain effective working relationships with EMS agencies, hospitals, clinical affiliates, medical direction, advisory committee members, employers, and other community partners to ensure training meets workforce and community needs. Remain current in EMS clinical practice, education, certification requirements, protocols, instructional methods, and professional standards through continuing education and professional development. Participate in program evaluation, curriculum review, exam and assessment review, student outcome analysis, advisory committee activities, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement. Actively contribute to college committees, campus activities, and discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings as assigned. Support all functions of the College and comply with college academic, personnel, safety, student, and administrative policies. Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incident to the work described herein. Required Qualifications Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Science, Emergency Medical Services, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Current North Carolina Paramedic credential. Current NC OEMS Level I Paramedic Instructor credential (or ability to obtain within one year). 5+ years’ EMS field experience as a Paramedic. Skills and Abilities Ability to work effectively and collegially with others. Skilled in the use of computers and commitment to the effective use of instructional technology. Knowledge of current EMS education practices, clinical standards, and regulatory expectations. Ability to provide exceptional service to students and internal and external partners. Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college. Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple programs, courses, sites, and activities. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years 911 EMS field experience. Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Emergency Medical Science, education, healthcare, public safety, or a related field. Will consider applicants with extensive EMS field training and EMS educational experience. Experience teaching EMT , AEMT , and/or Paramedic courses in a community college setting. Experience with CoAEMSP/ CAAHEP -accredited Paramedic education and/or AEMT accreditation processes. Current AHA instructor credentials and/or NAEMT instructor credentials. Experience with simulation, clinical education, field internship oversight, test validation, student competency tracking, and program assessment. Salary Range Salary Range Based on experience.
