Mental Health Technician

University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a 112-bed psychiatric hospital, has provided quality of care to children and adolescents in central Florida since 1989. The facility, located on a beautiful campus in Orlando, neighbors the University of Central Florida. The Mental Health Tech provides direct care to patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well being of the patients. This is a Per-Diem position.

Essential Job Duties:

• Assist the Admissions team with the safe intake, reception, and orientation of patients entering the facility.
• Maintain continuous awareness of patient safety and behavior while patients are awaiting assessment, admission, or transfer.
• Conduct and document patient observations and safety checks in accordance with facility policies and assigned observation levels.
• Support Admissions staff with patient belongings procedures, including inventory and securing potentially unsafe or prohibited items according to facility policy.
• Assist with patient searches or safety screenings as permitted by policy, training, and applicable requirements.
• Provide a calm, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during the admissions process.
• Use approved verbal de-escalation and crisis-prevention techniques when patients demonstrate agitation, anxiety, or escalating behaviors.
• Promptly communicate changes in patient behavior, condition, or safety concerns to the appropriate nurse or clinical team member.
• Assist with patient transport and escort from Admissions to inpatient units or other designated areas while maintaining appropriate safety precautions.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Two years experience working in a psychiatric setting
• CPR (May be acquired after hire)
• Effective oral and written communication skills
