School Custodian

Position Overview We are seeking a dependable and service-oriented School Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming learning environments across our campuses. This role is responsible for the daily cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of school facilities while supporting a positive experience for students, staff, families, and visitors. The School Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and ready to support teaching and learning. Key Responsibilities Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and common areas Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and remove trash throughout the facility Restock restroom and janitorial supplies as needed Perform minor maintenance repairs and report major maintenance issues promptly Safety & Facility Operations Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard‑free environment Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards Assist with opening and closing the building as assigned Support emergency cleanup and facility response as needed Event & Campus Support Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and school activities Assist with furniture moves and classroom transitions Support campus operations to ensure facilities are prepared for daily use Inventory & Equipment Monitor janitorial supplies and submit inventory requests Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and materials Ensure custodial storage areas remain organized and secure Customer Service Provide friendly, professional service to students, families, staff, and visitors Respond promptly to facility requests and maintenance concerns Collaborate with school leadership to maintain high facility standards Perform additional duties as assigned to support school and organizational operations Why Join ITAV? Position Details Location: Bronzeville (Chicago, IL) Position Type: Full‑time, 12‑month Salary Range: $39,150 – $42,139 Funding: This position is supported through grant‑funded programs that are integral to ITAV’s education model. Qualifications High school diploma or GED More than 2 years of previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or maintenance experience Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning products Valid driver's license Strong organizational and communication skills Preferred: Knowledge of OSHA, workplace safety, and sanitation procedures Experience working in a school or educational setting Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions Who You Are Reliable: You take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
