Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Step into an impactful contract role supporting K-12 students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a vibrant educational environment. You'll have the opportunity to work onsite, providing essential services that help young learners develop independence and confidence in their daily navigation and travel skills. This position offers a set schedule of 32.5 hours per week (8:15am to 3:15pm) for the academic year running from early September 2026 through mid-June 2027.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Hold an active Orientation and Mobility Specialist license
- Demonstrated experience working with school-age children, preferably across a range of grade levels (K-12)
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with educators, families, and other specialists
- Ability to assess, develop, and implement personalized orientation and mobility programs
- Commitment to fostering safe, inclusive learning environments
- Organized, proactive, and adaptable in a dynamic school setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, helping them acquire skills for safe and effective movement within various environments
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and document individualized goals and progress
- Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and families to integrate orientation and mobility training into students’ academic plans
- Offer recommendations for adaptations and equipment to promote independence
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and maintain thorough records
